Exploring radiation measurement after Fukushima: When media ecology meets citizen science

چکیده

While various scholars have investigated the role of citizens in generating scientific data after Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster under labels citizen science and sensing, this essay draws on media ecology explores its potential theoretical usefulness for enhancing our understanding post-Fukushima practices. Taking Marshall McLuhan’s perspective technology as a medium, creates framework foregrounding measurement device (of radiation levels, case) extending user’s body mind. In doing so, attempts to contribute fields studies Science, Technology, Society (STS).
